Taking your children's education into your own hands is not an easy decision to make. Equally challenging is knowing how and where to begin.
Let me help you navigate through the different paths you can take to find the one that's right for you and your family.
Staying motivated, trying new options, keeping things fresh will not only help your kids appreciate their home education but also help you as the parent enjoy your home school.
I can help you find alternative ways of creating your unique home school.
From lesson plans to high school transcripts to choosing the right curriculum, my passion is homeschooling in a way that caters to the individual student's needs and interests while keeping focus on your main goals for your children's education and success.
You never need to feel alone on this journey.
My name is Terri Barnes. I started homeschooling about 15 years ago when my husband and I realized the public school system was not working for our family. From that point on, I began on a path of which I had no idea where it would lead.
Scary? Yes, indeed. Surprisingly rewarding? Absolutely.
During that time, I started a home school network in our city and discovered so many amazing families who were in need of support and guidance, just like I was.
And so began my new journey of encouraging and assisting other parents who were looking for answers, searching for a different direction, or sometimes just wondering if they were doing the right thing.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Texas at El Paso, where I also studied creative writing and secondary education. Just out of college, I taught English at a business college, and I've been teaching language arts and journalism to homeschoolers for about ten years, and I have tutored for over 30 years.
Last year, I wrote and published my first book, My Kids Made Me Do It: Lessons in Creating a Unique and Joyful Homeschool.
Running a school is far from easy, and that is essentially what we as homeschool parents do. We must manage daily lessons, maybe testing and grades, extracurricular and social activities, all the while managing our home, finances, meals, and family life.
Doing this alone can be tough.
Let me help you make your life a little less stressful and give you the confidence to move forward.
It's sometimes difficult to ask for help. Maybe you feel a bit embarrassed that you are struggling. Maybe you feel you are not homeschooling the "right" way or you need to better understand how to homeschool. Perhaps you have a child who seems behind in a subject and you’re considering using a tutor.
Rest assured, our communication will be free of judgment and always confidential.
And if you need home school help with something not listed in my services, just ask. I still might be able to assist you.
